5 common vibrating screens and their introduction

  • 5 min read

Screening is one of the most important parts of aggregate production. It takes place before and/or after the crushing stage (or stages) and produces the specifications required for the final products. The purpose of screening is to separate a flow of aggregate particles into uniform sizes. This is accomplished by using Vibrating Screens.  Read More: Guide to the Best Vibrating Screen in 2022

Vibrating Screens are machines used to separate aggregates by particle size by means of an exciting force applied to the machine. The vibration lifts the material, causing it to stratify, allowing the smaller material to move from the top of the depth of the material to the bottom of the material, thus exposing them to the screening surface.

Vibrating screens are used to separate materials of different sizes in various types of industries. Different types of vibrating screens have different functions and are formed with different materials. These screens are usually used to separate powders, solids, and liquids. Below we list 5 common vibrating screens and their introductions for your reference:

Horizontal Vibrating Screen

Horizontal Vibrating Screens

Horizontal vibrating screens are available in the same sizes as the equivalent two-bearing inclined models. A pair of gear-coupled, parallel-shaft unbalanced rotors in an enclosed full-width vibrator module applies the straight-line inertia force that generates the receiptrocating motion of the screen box. The module is mounted so that its line of action passes through the center of gravity of the screen box, which moves in a straight-line, reciprocating pitching motion that conveys as it screens. This contrasts with the circular motion of the inclined screen, which depends on its downward slope to move the retained material over the screen.

Linear Vibrating Screen

Heavy-Duty Linear Vibrating Screens

Linear vibrating screens are robust and multi-purpose screening machines, whose entire screening unit is excited to a linear vibration. They are designed as single or multi-deck screening machines. Depending on the application, a wide variety of screen linings, such as wire mesh, perforated plates, welded wire mesh, polyurethane screen mesh, etc. can be installed. he size and design of these screens can be altered according to the production size and requirement. This vibrating screen works best in multitasking as it can classify and transport materials at the same time. These are highly efficient screen types that have many industrial uses. In chemical industries, they are used to classify pigments like resin, grease, and paint. Apart from the chemical industry, they are also used in the paper industry, food industry, metallurgical processes, and much more.

Inclined Vibrating Screen

Inclined screens are vibrated by a single, two-bearing, unbalanced rotor mounted concentrically or eccentrically with respect to the centroidal axis of the screen. Overhead-mounted rotors, designated “OHV”, generate a slightly rocking motion. The forward-inclined ellipse at the feed end accelerates incoming material to promote initial screening while the slightly backward-inclined ellipse at the discharge retards the oversize travel rate to help in the final removal of near-size particles.

Concentrically-mounted rotors generate a uniform circular motion over the length of the screen, from feed to discharge, moving oversize material smoothly at a uniform rate. Inclined screens with concentric rotor mountings, designated “CV”, are less susceptible to blinding in coarse screening of acicular or “spikey” particle shapes than units with overhead mountings.

Banana Vibrating Screen

Banana Vibrating Screen are also called multi-slope screens. Banana Vibrating Screen, or multi-slope, screens enable higher throughputs than equivalent horizontal screens when used in most sizing applications. These screens generate high material travel velocities on the upper deck slopes, which minimise the bed depth generated at the feed end of the screens. This facilitates the passage of fines through the bed.
A Banana vibrating screen is very important for industrial purposes and makes up a piece of very durable machinery for separating items. It is mostly used to classify large and medium-sized items. This type of screen is mainly used in the mining industry. It is used to classify iron ore and gold. It also helps to classify coal powder and many other items as well. A banana vibrating screen is also used in dewatering and desliming substances too. You can find a banana vibrating screen being used for the classification of hard rocks and limestone as well.

Flip Flow Vibrating Screen

Flip Flow Vibrating Screen, also known as flip flop or elastic mesh screens, are machines designed to efficiently screen sticky, wet, and other difficult materials. Many industries prefer to screen materials in bulk. At times these powders and materials that are to be screened are damp, coarse and even delicate. In such cases, a flip-flop vibrating screen works the best.

Flip Flop Vibrating Screen has a very low operating cost and is also very low maintenance machinery. It has a very compact and modular structure.

This vibratory screen uses both linear and circular working motion to add up to the versatility, This type of machine is widely used in the mining industry. Flip-flow screening equipment is used in other applications, as well. These machines can easily screen aggregate like coal or valuable minerals like gold ore. They’re also used to classify and dewater very fine materials like natural riverbed sand and manufactured sand.
